THE country needs people with technical qualifications, skills and knowledge to meet market demands, says Education Department Secretary Dr Uke Kombra.
He was speaking during a weeklong technical, vocational education and training (Tvet) curriculum writing workshop last week.
Kombra said the country needed people with Tvet qualifications, skills and knowledge so that they could be utilised and be able to provide for various skills gaps and supply the ever-growing skills demand in the extraction, agriculture, building and civil and other industries.
He encouraged curriculum officers to work hard to complete required courses.
Kombra said the Tvet curriculum should be developed within the national qualification framework and standard so that students taught acquired necessary knowledge and skills, and attained qualifications that could be recognised and used in the country.
Trainees were challenged to have these courses that ranged from the national certificate 1-4, national diploma and advance diploma to be available on time for full implementation in 2019.
The aim of the writing workshop was to develop the Tvet courses and programmes in line with the national qualification framework.
