Country records 17,041 Covid-19 cases, 173 deaths

PAPUA New Guinea recorded three new Covid-19 cases as of Monday (June 21) increasing the total number of cases to 17,041.
According to the National Control Centre, two cases were reported in the National Capital District and one in Eastern Highlands.
One is a male and the rest are females, the three are aged between 25 and 48.
A total of 130,467 people have been tested for the Covid-19.
The country recorded 173 deaths since the first recorded death last July 7.
A total of 16,443 have recovered from the virus.
Last Sunday, the National Control Centre reported 25 new Covid-19 cases.
East New Britain reported the highest with 20, Western with four and Hela with one.
Eleven of the new cases were males while 14 were females with ages ranging from one to 93 years old.
Eighteen of the new cases displayed symptoms of the Covid-19, six had existing medical conditions, three were hospitalised and one was on a ventilator. One of the new cases was a health worker.
Those who died included 131 males and 42 females with their age ranging 21 to 82.
The deaths were reported from 17 provinces.
Northern, Hela, Gulf, the Autonomous Region of Bougainville and Madang have not reported deaths.
A total of 141 of the deaths were symptomatic.
One-hundred-and-thirty-five (135) of the deaths had pre-existing medical conditions.
Hypertension, diabetes, lung diseases (TB, COAD) and cardiac diseases were the leading comorbidities.
One-hundred-and-two of those that have died were hospitalised and 31 had to be intubated or placed on a ventilator.
Five per cent of the reported deaths were health workers and 11 had a history of contact with Covid-19 positive cases.
Globally, the total confirmed cases of Covid-19 has reached 178,202,610 including 336,450 new cases reported as of Monday.
The death toll stands at 3,865,738.
