Couple accused of treating girl as a prostitute, out on bail

THE Mendi district court has released on bail the couple who treated a 13-year-old girl as a prostitute, forcing her into a threesome, molesting and raping her at least five times from August until last month.
Provincial commander Chief Supt Martin Lakari yesterday confirmed that the couple was released on bail by the district court.
“Police have played its part to arrest and charge the couple. But the court has decided to allow the couple bail,” he said.
Police arrested the couple from Imbonggu’s Kiburu village in Southern Highlands on Feb 19 and refused to grant bail.
The (victim’s) relatives were suspicious and confronted the girl thinking that something was not right and she told them of her nightmare.
She was then taken to the Mendi police station by her uncle on Feb 18 to lodge a police report.
Police then moved into Kiburu and arrested the couple, charged them with five counts of sexual touching and five counts of rape each. The elementary schoolgirl told police that the couple forced her into taking part in unusual sexual activities and that the husband would rape her in the company of his wife.
They would then pay her K50 or K100 and send her away, threatening to kill her if she told anyone about the threesome.

  • This is the worse and sickening sexual act that has set a bad precedence in our community and why sending out on bail? Isn’t the confession by the little girl not enough? Is it a crime that is normal to the society?

  • What is wrong with this court system?
Sending these couple back to the community as if nothing serious happened?
    What a disgrace!
