A couple charged with assault of a 60-year-old woman they had accused of practising sorcery were granted bail by the Waigani Committal Court yesterday.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar granted individual bails to Tindiwa Nakinaki and his wife Jennifer Tepula for K300 each.
He told the couple that while on bail they must:
- Live in National Capital District at all times until the completion of their case;
- at all times attend the court on the dates and times appointed; and
- not interfere with any State witnesses, especially the victim.
Police alleged that on April 6, at the Erima Flyover Bridge in Port Moresby, Nakinaki and Tepula assaulted Kama Martin after they suspected her of practising sorcery and making their baby sick.
It was alleged that after bashing Kama, they took her somewhere and tortured her.
The police report stated that they used matches to burn her private parts and she received severe injuries to other parts of her body.
