Course needs more, better publicity

Letters

How many recruiters in Papua New Guinea are familiar with the university course Papua New Guinea Studies and International Relations?
I believe many do not know much about this course.
For those who do not know about the course, PNG Studies and International Relations is bachelor of arts course offered in Divine Word University that merges different social science disciplines such as community development, anthropology, gender studies, literature, history, politics and international relations.
When people ask me about it, I just say the course is almost equivalent to political science that is offered in the University of PNG.
The fortunate graduates of this course are working with relevant government departments, especially the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT).
DFAIT, foreign missions and government departments and agencies that have basic international relations functions are areas that graduates can look for opportunities in.
The rest of the graduates are forced to find their own way in the world.
Because of the course’s unpopularity and limited publicity, getting people to understand graduates’ potentials is sometimes challenging.
Of course, the lack of employment opportunities in the country is a factor affecting the chances of getting jobs.
But I believe the PNG Studies and International Relations course deserves more and better publicity given the fact that most of its graduates are in key positions contributing to the development of our country.
I am a proud graduate.
