A committal court allowed bail to a police officer charged with permitting a prisoner to escape from the Boroko police cells in Port Moresby three months ago.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar allowed Tony Leo a K300 bail last week after he openly apologised to the court and asked for bail.
The prosecutor told the court that Leo was not allowed a police bail but made no objections to his court bail.
Leo, from Keltiga village in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands, was arrested on Tuesday last week and appeared in court from custody.
Police alleged that on March 10,  Leo released Bradley Terry from custody at the Boroko cell.
Bidar ordered that Leo remain in the National Capital District pending the completion of his case and not to interfere with any police witnesses. Leo will appear in court for his mention on July 27.
