Court commits four accused of assault to trial

FOUR men charged with causing grievous bodily harm in a Central village have been committed to stand trial at the National Court.
Allen Bengi, 18, Victor Belo, 56, Jayson Gagu, 19, and Martin Belu, 19, are all from Inaujina village in Mekeo district, Central. They appeared before Magistrate Ben Kome at the Waigani Committal Court.
Kome said there was sufficient evidence to commit them to trial.
The court heard that on Jan 6, between 1pm and 2pm, the four were at the village cerebrating a bride-price ceremony.
A fight broke out among the youths who were drinking.
A man sustained a deep cut on his head and his father, who came to question the group, was allegedly assaulted.
He was treated at the Port Moresby General Hospital.
The four are in custody.
They will appear again in court on Dec 15.
