MADANG National Court judge Justice David Cannings has adjourned the Usino-Bundi election petition case to Sept 3.
The result of the court-ordered election recount will be known then.
Lawyer Nixon Kiuk representing petitioner Peter Yama was allowed to file two affidavits relating to the recount before Aug 22.
The respondents were also allowed time to file their submissions before Aug 29. Cannings ruled that all motions would be heard on Sept 3.
Outside court, Yama told supporters that there were irregularities during the recount and the court would judge that on Sept 30.
Usino-Bundi MP Anton Yagama told reporters that they should wait for the court to make a final decision.
“‘I have beaten Yama twice but we will just wait for the court to make its decision,”’ Yagama said.
He appealed to the Usino-Bundi people to remain calm.
“I am still your MP and services will still come to you,’’ Yagama said.
Governor Jim Kas was seen removing knives from supporters who had turned up for the court case.
