A TOTAL of 536 village court officials in Namatanai district, New Ireland, have been paid their allowances that have been outstanding since April, 2011.

Many received more than K1,000 each in back paid allowances from the New Ireland provincial treasury office in Kavieng.

Namatanai law and justice sector coordinator Patrick Binny said yesterday outstanding allowances for eight village court officials in the remote Konoagil LLG remain to be paid.

Binny said the payments had topped up the allowances of a team of hard working village court officials who worked in very difficult conditions.

Meanwhile, LLG wards in New Ireland can expect their accounts to be frozen if funds in those accounts are believed to have been misused.

So far, wards 12 and 13 of Lavongai LLG have had their accounts frozen by the provincial planning division while mismanagement is being investigated.
