Court refuses mother’s plea

A MOTHER who wanted to get an interim protection order on behalf of her daughter was refused by the Mt Hagen Family Court.
District court magistrate Lydia Karre told Melody Steven’s mother that unless Melody was held at gunpoint or her legs chopped off and admitted in hospital and she provided a medical report, the court would not consider issuing an interim protection order.
Melody’s mother appeared on her behalf and told the court that she was with her husband in Baiyer, Western Highlands and didn’t attend court even though she went and talked to her to come to court.
She told the court that her daughter had a marriage problem with her husband Jason Kisua for seven years and wanted the court to issue an interim protection order against Kisua.
Karre told Melody’s mother that her daughter filed court documents to seek the order against her husband and not her.
“If your daughter wants court to issue interim protection order, she must appear in court and tell the court why she needs protection orders and the court will consider and issue,” Karre said.
She told the woman to tell her daughter to appear in court on March 3 and tell the court why she needed the protection orders.
Magistrate Karre told Melody’s mother that the court understood her concern as a mother about the safety of her daughter.
“The court can’t just go ahead and issue orders unnecessarily because of the mother.
“There is no evidence to show that Melody was held at gunpoint or her legs chopped and now admitted in hospital,” she said.
