Court restrains victim’s family

 A  WAIGANI Committal Court magistrate has issued orders restraining a victim’s family not to threaten a rapist when he appeared in court on Tuesday.

The man, 29, from the Solomon Islands was charged with the rape of his niece on May 30 at the residence of his wife’s brother in Port Moresby. where they stayed.

Magistrate Pinnson Pindipia made orders when responding to an application made in court by the Boselala’s counsel KwayaIla Ila from the office of the Public Solicitor.

Ila asked the court to restrain the parents of the victim not to harass or threaten the accused as the matter was in court and sought to order the return of the man’s properties that was seized.

Pindipia ordered that Boselala’s properties be returned to him by the family as the properties were wrongly kept.

Pindipia told the victim’s parents that it was an order of the court and if they failed to comply, they would face serious charges.

The substantive matter was adjourned to Aug 22.
