A 52-YEAR-OLD man was charged with arson causing K395,000 in damage to a property in Gereka village on May 27.
Ikian Limbo, from Laiagam’s Yomundi village, Enga, was alleged to be the leader of a group of men who set fire to Grace Nari’s house at about 3am at Bootless Bay in the National Capital District.
The alleged arsonists, armed with bush knives, ordered the occupants to leave.
Limbo is alleged to have an ongoing dispute with Nari over the land on which the house was built.
He was a caretaker of the land assigned by a Paul Nari and family.
The occupants were almost trapped in the fire when Limbo allegedly ordered his men to burn down the house while they were still inside.
The house was valued at K149,604.95 and property destroyed was valued at a total of K150,000.
Limbo was arrested and charged by the police after he was reported to be the main instigator to the incident.
He appeared in court last Thursday on a K2,000 bail.
Waigani Committal Court magistrate Ernest Wilmot fixed Oct 15 for mention.
