Court strikes out pastor’s false pretence case
THE Waigani Committal Court yesterday struck out a case of a pastor who was alleged to have obtained money through false pretence.
Pastor Emmanuel Aua, 59, of Maipenairau village, Baimuru, Gulf, allegedly solicited a total of K2070 on different occasions from a woman since March 2009.
Aua promised the women to pay her back in a huge sum from an investor. He approached the woman with different reasons to collect money.
The woman made several attempts and approached Aua but he normally replied that he would pay next day but never repaid and went into hiding.
He was seen last year and was brought to the Boroko police station where he repaid K1000, and K1070 was not paid until the matter was reported to the Badili CID section and he was arrested.
Magistrate Ernest Wilmot struck out the case due to defective information from police files.
“The matter is faultily detailed by the arresting officer … I will forfeit the bail money for not appearing in the court and discharge from custody,” Wilmot said.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Christian Iga said such cases that were struck out by the court could always be re-admitted and the accused may be charged again if police reinvestigated to find enough evidence.
