THE Waigani Committal Court yesterday issued a warrant of arrest for a 19-year-old man, charged with committing sexual offences against a minor, for jumping bail.
Magistrate Garry Unjo issued the warrant after police prosecutor Sgt Christian Iga informed the court that Jeffrey Mundi had failed to appear for the fifth consecutive time.
Magistrate Unjo set aside the bail and fixed June 30 for a review.
Mundi, from Kundiawa-Gembogl’s Pari village in Chimbu, is facing two counts of molest and persistent sexual abuse committed against the girl at Murray Barracks in Port Moresby.
He was alleged to have sexually abused the girl on two separate occasions.
Police alleged that between 11am and noon on Dec 21, the girl was playing beside a drain with other children when Mundi chased them away and called the girl to come over.
Mundi allegedly touched her private area.
On Dec 23, between 4pm and 5pm, in the same location, the girl was playing with his younger sister.
It was alleged that Mundi was in his father’s house and called both girls to come to him because he wanted to tell them a story. However, he sent his sister into the house and allegedly lifted the girl onto his lap and caressed her buttocks and fondled her private parts.
