FOR the first in almost 36 years of living in Papua New Guinea, Jessica Geveken finally gets to meet her cousin.

Geveken, whose father is from the Solomon Islands and mother from Morobe, said she was filled with mixed emotions as she waited impatiently on Monday at Jackson’s Airport to meet the cousin she had never met.

Geveken’s cousin, Grant Hou, is a member of the Solomon Islands rugby union team that arrived on Monday for the Oceania Cup tournament that will be played in Port Moresby from Saturday.

“It is such a great feeling,” Geveken said.

“I finally get to meet my very own cousin who I’ve never met in my life.

“I have lived my whole life in Port Moresby and have never once in my life had the opportunity to meet the family from the Solomon Islands. This will be the first time,” an emotional Geveken said.

She said she heard the news that Hou was going to play in the Oceania Cup and thought it would be a great time to meet him.

“Sports really brings people together,” she said.

“Through sports I met a close family member.”
