A SURVEY conducted nationwide is to gauge people’s perception, knowledge and behaviour as regards the Covid-19, with 540 cases reported so far including seven deaths.
The survey is in line with the directive from the National Pandemic Response Controller David Manning for health workers, provincial authorities and community leaders to ensure that everyone has access to life-saving information to protect them from the coronavirus (Covid-19).
“This survey is vital as it will provide an indication of people’s risk perception, knowledge and prevention measures and information sources on the Covid-19,” Manning said.
“It will help us identify gaps as we move forward in living with the Covid-19.
“I urge (all) to participate and provide feedback so we can improve the way we reach people.”
The survey team comprises officials from the Health Department and the provincial health authorities supported by the World Health Organisation.
They have completed the survey in Central, East Sepik, West Sepik, Madang, Gulf, Southern Highlands, Jiwaka and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
They are currently working in Morobe and Eastern Highlands.
The findings will be used to update communication strategies and campaigns, developing messaging for behaviour changes and designing interventions for long-term community engagement.
