THE Enga health authority has completed building a Coronavirus (Covid -19) isolation and treatment centre at a cost of K420,000, a senior staff says.
Authority director for medical services Dr Kanandru Pondros said the centre would be opened for use this week.
He said the Enga government funded the centre with K1 million to help the province’s health system deal with the surge in the Covid-19 cases.
Dr Pondros said the centre had seven buildings which contained an intensive care unit, laboratory, administration section, isolation wards and other sections.
He said the provincial government also purchased equipment such as beds and patient monitors for the centre at a cost of K460,000.
Dr Pondros said the fact that the centre was built, fitted and equipped in a short space of time showed that authorities had taken the Covid-19 pandemic seriously.
He said the centre would alleviate pressure on the Wabag General Hospital which had been using a tent to admit and house Covid-19 patients.
Provincial administrator Dr Samson Amean, who is also the assistant controller and chairman of the provincial Covid-19 task force committee, said they were doing everything possible to bring the Covid-19 pandemic under control.
Sir Peter Ipatas echoed the sentiment, saying the provincial government would do everything possible to reduce the spread of the Covid-19 in Enga.
