FOR the first time in the Australian National Rugby League competition, a logo from a Papua New Guinean company will be featured on the uniform of an Australian NRL team.
Into their third year of sponsorship of the North Queensland Cowboys, the Trukai Industry Ltd will have the Trukai mask featured on the Cowboys’ shorts and will be on display for all to see when the Cowboys take on the Brisbane Broncos in round one of the 2010 NRL season at Dairy Farmers Stadium in Townsville.
Trukai’s general manager sales and marketing David Burns said: “PNG has a great passion for rugby league and Trukai’s continued association with the Cowboys will ultimately enhance the local code in PNG through opportunities to have locally-based players in pre-season training programmes with the Cowboys.”
Trukai’s marketing manager Pam Penrose said quite a substantial investment from Trukai had brought the PNG and the Cowboys’ relationship together which in turn would add huge benefits for rugby in PNG.
Burns said: “As a major sponsor of sports in PNG, Trukai with the benefits of the Cowboys involvement will continue to promote and develop sports and a healthy lifestyle amongst the youth and the disadvantaged in our community.”
He added that joining forces with the Cowboys would bolster Trukai’s fundraising efforts for sports, such as the annual Trukai Fun Run which raises more than K500,000 for PNG sports.
