KUMULS front-rower Sylvester Namo has secured a train-and-trial deal with the North Queensland Cowboys but the details of his contract are not yet known.
Cowboys recruitment manager Dane Campbell told The National on Friday the club would not reveal the specific details of 22-year-old’s contract until they make an official announcement.
Campbell said Namo had performed well at the Rugby League World Cup in the United Kingdom which had been noticed by the Cowboys recruitment team.
Campbell himself also travelled to the UK and watched the Kumuls matches to assess some of the players.
The former Lae Tiger, Namo, was one of those players Campbell had targeted. Campbell said Namo had the potential to develop further in his career.
“Yes I can confirm that Sylvester has been provided a training opportunity with the Cowboys NRL squad,” Campbell said told this paper.
“We are all very excited to start working with Sylvester as he played very well for the Hunters in the Hostplus Cup this past season and Kumuls at the World Cup.
“We believe that by having this opportunity to train with our NRL squad that he will continue to develop his skills.” Namo has been part of the SP Hunters squad for two seasons before making his test debut with the Kumuls in the Pacific Test against Fiji in Sydney in June.
The man from Asaro in the Eastern Highlands played three games at the Rugby League World Cup book ending the front-row with London Broncos prop Wellington Albert.
Namo will join fellow PNG players in Robert Derby and Ragarive Wavik at the Cowboys.
