AFTER celebrating 25 years in the country in July, the home-grown CPL Group recently opened a learning centre for employees.
In tandem with the International Grocers Association (IGA) in the United States, of which CPL is the lone affiliate from PNG, CPL human resource head Omprakash Seshadri said the company hoped the new surroundings would contribute to “more centred, healthy and people-focused leaders in the organisation”.
The CPL Learning Centre was opened on Oct 8.
It comprised a computer laboratory, or e-learning centre, with seven high-speed internet connections as well as a point of sale (POS) training laboratory for check-out cash register operators to train.
Forty executive to middle management executives are undergoing an online three-month retail management training programme.
The POS machines programme has trained 48 new cashiers, with 69 new employees having completed a basic induction course since October.
“I am confident that this environment will foster collegiality and a sense of belonging among our employees and this will flow through to their careers,” Omprakash said.
“Remember, this is not a burn-out space. It is a learning space.
“It is not meant to make you work longer hours, but to make your learning hours more friendly, fun, practical and productive.”
Group chief executive officer Ravi Singh said the centre was a significant milestone in the company’s efforts to enhance its employees’ learning experience.
