CRICKET Papua New Guinea (CPNG) hosted a fun day for three institutions that cater for people living with disabilities.
Cricket for Good manager Margaret Sibona said the programme was in line to commemorate World Children’s Day on Nov 20 and National Disability Day on Dec 3.
Using cricket to promote inclusiveness, the fun day was filled with modified cricket matches between Callan Services, Red Cross Special Education and Resource Centre, and Cheshire Homes.
“All ability is one of the institutes that we really want to include because of gender equality and social inclusion,” Sibona said.
“We want to include them in our programme because it is not only for people who are able but also for people who are in that particular category.”
At the end of the games, CPNG presented awards and gifts to the facilitators and teachers of the three institutions while the children had a special appearance and photo session with the PNG Barramundis.
Sibona hailed the facilitators for their effort in explaining the programme in its simplest form to the children.
She said the programme for people living with disabilities started this year with the three institutions, however, they were planning to roll out the programme in other centres next year.
“It all depends on sponsors who wants us to run the programme because the only component we are facing with Covid-19 is funding,” Sibona said.
“If sponsors are willing to fund the programme, we will be really happy to go to other provinces.”
