Crafts’ training for HIV-infected mums

TWENTY-nine mothers living with HIV/AIDS in the Western Highlands have been trained with handicraft-making skills to earn a living.
The women, in their early 40s and late 50s, received their certificates last Friday after four week-training course conducted by the Baptist Union of PNG.
Its project manager, Michael Pagasa, said most of the women live in squatter settlements in Mt Hagen and they did not have any special skills to earn income.
Their initial training was based on using bilum-making skills to create other items like earrings, mobile phone cases and other accessories. 
Mr Pagasa said that the handicraft was sold through duty-free shops at Jackson Airport, adding that the trained women were encouraged to teach their skills to others in the settlements.
