A SEPARATE secretariat should be created to monitor all income and expenditure from the sectors of agriculture, mining, forestry and others concerning the environment in the country.
This was one of the recommendations made at a workshop conducted by United Nations Development Partners in partnership with Stockholm+ 50 focused on addressing environment and poverty.
According to the participants these sectors have generated more income but presently have no proper records to show how much has been coming in, and the impacts on the environment and people.
Facilitator of the workshop Alfred Rungol said the workshop enabled stakeholders to share and identify short and long term solutions for climate change impacts in the country.
Rungol highlighted some solutions such as restoring ecosystems, mitigation and adaptation to fight the climate change, fighting plastic and chemical pollution and improving technology, infrastructure and skills.
“The objective of the national consultation meeting is to get a bottom-update based on people’s experiences and ideas for a healthy planet for the prosperity for all,” he said.
He said all stakeholders should contribute to the discussions through direct participation, as well as informal groups to support the dialogues.
