Create new electorates before 2022

Letters

A FEW more electorates should be created before the 2022 elections.
Former prime minister Peter O’Neill has assured the people of this nation that the government was duty bound to create a few more provincial and open electorates.
The people are still waiting for that to happen.
Our nation’s constitution allows one open member to represent a population of 40,000 and not more than that.
Many open electorates today have populations beyond that limit.
For instance, Bulolo in Morobe has a population of over 100,000 and should be split before the 2022 elections.
Bulolo can be split to allow Wau-Biaru-Waria to have a new Wau electorate for a fair representation in parliament.
Lae should also be split into Lae East and Lae West and Morobe should also split into East and West Morobe provinces.
West Morobe will consist of Menyamya, Wau, Bulolo, Markham, Lae West electorates while East Morobe will consist of Lae East, Nawaeb, Finschhafen, Tewai-Siassi, and Kabwum electorates.
Huon-Gulf should be abolished.
The population of Morobe may have already reached one million mark therefore this proposal should be seriously considered now in preparation for 2022 election.
