Credit Corporation Papua New Guinea announced a two-year sponsorship deal with Cricket PNG (CPNG) in Port Moresby yesterday.
Credit Corp chief financial officer Peter Aitsi made the announcement which will further help with the development of cricket in PNG.
“Cricket PNG are doing great work, promoting the health and well-being of young Papua New Guineans through sport,” he said.
“The programmes they have in place to develop the sport will only enhance the reputation of the sport here and overseas.
“Congratulations to the men’s and women’s team on their recent successes.
“Credit Corp are proud to be associated with Cricket PNG and look forward to a successful partnership.”
CPNG chief executive Greg Campbell was thankful of the announcement and welcomed the new partnership.
“We are privileged to be in this situation with Credit Corp coming on board to join CPN,” Campbell said.
“They (Credit Corp) see where we are going with good governance and transparency, and that our national men’s and women’s teams are on the cusp of achieving World Cup berths in the near future.
“Sponsors like Credit Corp are crucial to us meeting these goals.”
National coach Joe Dawes will receive accommodation as part of the deal in one of Credit Corp’s apartment complexes although he will be spending plenty of time abroad this year with national sides travelling to 10 countries over the next 7 months.
“It is abusy year for our teams,” Dawes said. “It’s exciting and we expect it to be successful
“So it’s a great time for Credit Corp to come on board as a partner of CPNG.”
The Barramundis’ and Lewas’ recent successes have gained them entry into the World Cup global qualifiers to be played later this year and the Under-19s have their World Cup qualifier in Japan, starting on Sunday.
