THE Commission of Inquiry into the sinking of the mv Rabaul Queen has been told there were no safety drills and safety instructions given before the ship left for Lae.
Paul Kanawi and Robin Huas, who both worked on the ship, admitted to counsel assisting the commission Mal Varitimos that there was never any safety drills and safety instructions given to passengers in case of an emergency on behalf of Rabaul Shipping.
But Huas, who gave evidence first, told Varitimos he assumed that safety drills were being done orally. He did not see any being carried out.
He also said there was no evacuation alarm raised when the ship started to sink.
Both men also told of how they managed to jump off the sinking ship and find a life raft.
