Cricket’s ‘Don’t drink and drive’ promo backed

PAPUA New Guinea will have a treat of cricket this December when six international stars enter the stage of the Pacific MMI and the Motor Vehicle Insurance Ltd’s Legends Bash.
Renowned Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitheran will head the contingent which includes Australian cricket stars Andy Bichel, Michael DiVenuto, Brad Hogg, Craig McDemott and English one-day star Adam Hollioake who will feature in a Twenty20 cricket match and clinics in selected areas over seven days.
The list was announced yesterday when PMMI continued its sponsorship under the “Don’t drink and drive “promotion for the second year running.
PMMI have also extended their sponsorship of the annual T20 marquee event for the next three years.
Cricket PNG board chairman Mick Nades said that he was extremely pleased that PMMI and MVIL had come on board again for the second year which would prove to be even bigger and better with the current facilities and the legends of cricket.
He revealed that this year round the six legends would also be travelling around NCD and to Alotau and Lae to conduct cricket clinics in schools and villages and also raise awareness on the “Don’t drink and drive” message.
PMMI managing director Wayne Dorgan said it is fantastic that the high profile cricketers were taking time out to visit the country which will be a huge bonus for cricket as it will help spread the message on alcohol and driving around PNG.
“Being in business is more than just about delivering high quality and competitive services, we take a leadership position in terms of social responsibility through initiatives such as partnering with sporting organisations and charities through sponsorships,” Dorgan said.
“This joint sponsorship from PMMI and MVIL is to increase the awareness and promote safety on our roads which has become a great concern in recent times.”
