Cricket blasts Milne Bay
The National, Wednesday May 14th, 2014
DESPITE Cyclone Ita’s damage in Milne Bay several weeks ago, the School Kriket Blast for Term 1 was still able to go ahead with two schools in the competition.
Four schools were supposed to take part in the Bank South Pacific -sponsored event but because of the cyclone damage and transport difficulties, only Maiwarra and Hagita Primary schools took part while Ladava and Naura Primary schools missed out.
Maiwarra took out the honours in the Under-13 boys and girls divisions, with hosts, Hagita Primary School taking revenge by claiming the U15 divisions.
Milne Bay regional cricket manager, Simon Deiwillie was happy to see the tournament go ahead despite the damage caused by Cyclone Ita.
“It was a great day of competition. Unfortunately we had two schools pull out due to the destruction caused by the cyclone.
“Despite the setback, the community still came out in hordes to support the two schools that took part.
