A two-year partnership (2019-2020) that will benefit cricket and its programme was announced yesterday in Port Moresby.
Cricket Papua new Guinea general manager Lee Mcdowell said the partnership would be focused on the visiting teams and delegates that come into the country within the two-year period.
“These are exciting times, we are going to have international games at Amini Park, both for the Barramundis (national men’s team) and the Lewas (national women’s team),” Mcdowell said.
“We are very confident that this venue (Holiday Inn) will provide the service and courtesy for our international visitors.
“First big thing for this year is next month (March 18), we have the Philippines and Vanuatu coming to compete with the Barramundis in the East Asia-Pacific World T20 Qualifiers, so Holiday Inn will be accommodating them.
“Both games will run from the March 20-23 and following that, we will have the EAP conference which we will have all the chief executives from the ten nations in our region and delegates from the International Cricket Council coming here.”
Barramundis coach John Dawes said 2019 was an important year for cricket, with all the national teams looking to qualify for the World Cup next year.
Holiday Inn general manager Robert Coates said teaming up with CPNG was a great opportunity for them promote their venue as a suitable tourism destination.
“Sports is such a great development opportunity so we are very happy to support CPNG.”
