Cricket taking Barras’ Bau around the world

KUMUL Petroleum Papua New Guinea Barramundis all-rounder Sese Bau says cricket has taken him to many places around the world.
“Australia, Canada, Ireland, England and the Netherlands are some of the places I have travelled to with Cricket PNG,” he said.
“When I’m away, I really miss my family and the local food.
“I miss having fish with kaukau, rice, greens and all the staple foods.”
Before starting his cricket career in 2015, Bau played for the Under-19 national team.
From his first game in 2008 where he felt scared of getting hit by the ball, that fear has been replaced by pride as he joins the Barramundis in representing PNG and his family at the Twenty-20 World Cup.
“On my return, I’m hoping to bring back a certain standard and experience to teach the younger ones,” Bau said.
Keen on playing in the World Cup, Bau said they were no strangers to playing against Oman.
He admitted that their first game would be tough but they have had a historical win in the World Cup qualifier and so that is the Barras’ advantage going into the game.
“We won the game against Oman, so we will try our best to maintain that,” Bau said.
He is under no illusion about the hard work and commitment required to succeed in cricket or anything else.
Bau encouraged young people to give anything a go, especially cricket.
One of the benefits of professional contracts is the financial component, enabling him to support his family.
“It has changed my life, and I encourage anyone to join cricket, work hard and have fun,” Bau said.
Modestly expressing his trust in his team, Bau said the Barras had trained hard so he knows that together they can do great in Oman.
