The Papua New Guinea A team, which will represent the country at July’s Pacific Games, finished their Australian tour with a 41-run defeat to the Australian Under-19s in a Twenty-20 match in Brisbane recently.
Batting first, the Australian U19 team posted an impressive 140/8 off their allotted 20 overs.
Jake Carder from Western Australia was the star with the bat for the Australians, hitting 57 runs off 55 balls.
PNG A got off to a steady start, with Jason Kila (16) and Kiplin Doriga (14) leading the way.
After their dismissals, wickets fell at a regular intervals and the PNG A were eventually bowled all out for 99 in the 20th over.
“This tour was a great learning experience for our young developing cricketers,” coach John Ovia said.
“The boys showed great character and courage. More matches against good opposition will only help in the development of our younger cricketers who are striving to play for the Barramundis.”
