CRU wants its players registered

AN official list of all the players competing in the Capital Rugby Union (CRU) is important, says competition manager Paul Joseph.
Joseph made these comments at the end of the CRU pre-season last weekend following three weeks of action at the Bava Park in Port Moresby.
“This year, CRU is looking to have a registered list of all the players in every division,” Joseph said.
“Through the registration, CRU can organise insurance so that if a player gets injured very badly, they are covered.
“This is something we’ve talked about for many years and seeing it become a reality will enhance the standard of the competition.
“It is also an important component of any organised sport.
“Regarding insurance, it has always been a struggle in the past because clubs haven’t been able to provide the full details of all their players.”
Joseph said most of the clubs in the competition had already organised themselves and paid their registration fee of K2000.
He said at the last CRU meeting in 2018, it had been agreed that the season should start as early as possible in order to be aligned with the plans of the interim board of the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football Union.
After the CRU executives meeting yesterday, the dates for the Hiri Cup will be announced.
The Hiri Cup will see all eight CRU teams form four sides — Mirigini Blue, Avurigo Green, Lahara Yellow and Laurabada Red.
The season starts after the Hiri Cup.
