THE government has allocated K97.4 million to the Department of Correctional Services – plus K9.6 million for this year’s general election and K5 million for jail maintenance.
First secretary to the minister for Correctional Services Smith Sagao said the K9.6 million would be used during the general election where 400 officers would be engaged in election duties.
He said funding for the 2012 budget would also be used to implement the recommendations of three independent reports by the PriceWaterhouseCoopers accounting firm, the National Security Advisory Council and the International Red Cross and Crescent Movement.
They highlighted CS reform, security and humanitarian issues.
Sagao said the recommendations would be implemented by the newly-established transitional management committee.
