A CORRECTIONAL Services sergeant who was on duty when PNG’s most notorious bank robbery suspect escaped from the Bomana maximum security facility on Jan 12, was not on duty when William Kapris escaped in 2000.
CS Commander Richard Sikani denied the allegation that was published in the Post-Courier.
“That report is not true. They did not check with us before reporting what they heard,” Mr Sikani said.
“We are upset by the Post-Courier’s report and accusations hurled by the electronic media against the CS.
“Their facts are unverified,” he added.
Correctional Services Minister Tony Aimo said: “I condemn Post-Courier’s report last Friday as being very biased and damaging to both the security and sovereignty of our country, especially now when the country is experiencing an economic boom.
“The report was unfounded and there is no proof of the facts. The report is contrary to the situation that transpired on Jan 12.”
“We all should be promoting the Government’s economic development efforts rather than painting negative pictures,” Mr Aimo said.
