THE Baimanekane people in Chimbu’s Kerowagi district, who banned the sale and drinking of homebrew in their community in the New Year, are being urged to send their children to school.
A Correctional Services officer from the area, Maima Kawage, who initiated the ban on homebrew, told his people during a gathering on Sunday at Diugl village that if they wanted change, they must save their money and send their children to school.
They could not continue to live like their ancestors and watch other people prosper in life.
Education held the key to a good future and when they had many educated elites in their community, they would see many changes.
The district, province and country needed educated people to run and manage its resources.
Kawage told parents and young people to invest their money in human resources development.
He urged them not to misuse their money earned from selling garden food or from coffee on things they would not get good rewards from.
They should put whatever money they earned in the bank and give first priority to their children by sending them to school, he said.
Kawage urged his people to accept family planning. If they had too many children they would find it hard to look after them properly.
He said parents should be blamed for their children roaming around doing nothing in the community when they should be sitting in a classroom learning.
