CS promotes 158 officers

THE Correctional Services promoted 158 officers to intermediate and senior ranks yesterday.
The officers were part of 196 applicants from CS facilities throughout the country, including its headquarters in Port Moresby.
CS Minister Sai Sailon Beseo, who read out their names in a low-key gathering, said 38 positions were either withdrawn or deferred.
He said officers who missed out should not be upset.
“Yupela mas wok hamamas na sevim gavman na kantri. Taim bilong yupela bai kam bihain (You must serve your government and nation happily. Your time will come later),” he told officers who missed out.
Commissioner Martin Balthazar said the officers were promoted on merit.
He said qualification, performance, service history, loyalty and discipline records were among key criteria used to decide the promotions.
The list of promoted officers include : three chief superintendents; five superintendents; nine chief inspectors; one senior inspector; four sergeant majors; 37 sergeants; 59 full corporals; and, 37 lance corporals.
Nineteen females were among those promoted.
