PORT Moresby’s Sir John Guise Stadium and Lae Rugby League Ground are allowed no more than 3,500 and 1,200 Digicel Cup spectators respectively, according to an official.
Papua New Guinea National Rugby League (PNGNRLC) manager Stanley Hondina said that yesterday when announcing the Digicel Cup ticket prices.
The season kicks off on Saturday.
He said Sir John Guise Stadium and Lae Rugby League had a seating capacity of 15,000 and 1,200 respectively. Hondina said the crowd control was in line with PNG Rugby Football League’s “Banis Protocols” which were established to mitigate the risks of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The John Guise Stadium will host four games every week,” Hondina said.
“There will be a double-header on Saturday and another on Sunday while Lae Rugby League Ground will host one.
“For Port Moresby fans, tickets will be sold at the venue.
“Grandstand tickets are K25, the east and west wings are K20.
“The eastern stand opposite the grandstand is K15 and the stands near the in-goals are K10.
“We are only testing the market so we’ll do reviews every week.”
Hondina said the Digicel Cup would be delivered under strict protocols.
“So I am appealing to the public to adhere to them while enjoying the matches,” he said.
“By this week, the Digicel Cup will be the only rugby league competition running in the world, apart from Australia’s National Rugby League.
“Fans should get behind the game as our country is going through tough times.
“Their support will contribute to nation building.”
Sir John Guise Stadium will host the Mt Hagen Eagles-Rabaul Gurias (1pm kick-off) and Gulf Isou-Central Dabaris (3:30pm kick-off) clashes on Saturday, and Hela Wigmen-Kimbe Cutters (1pm) and Port Moresby Vipers-Enga Mioks (3.30pm) fixtures on Sunday.
