Cup favourites cruise

NATIONAL Capital District volleyball Vailima Cup favourites U Mi Yet edged Snipers 2-1 at Ipi Park court last week.
Solid blocks by Ruth Adams and Emma Balawin laid the foundation for the win, leaving hitters Luana Travertza, Nellie Lavari and Vagi Gamini to dictate terms.
Snipers, with Bala Liveras, Helai Oala, Kaini Tau, Clera Kila, Rita Memafu and Freda Haoda, started the match firing on all cylinders and pulled off a close first set 26-24.
But U-Mi Yet regrouped and hit back to claim the second and third sets to top Pool B.
They play Grass Hoppers in next week’s semi-final.
Women’s title holder Vailima were bundled out.
Men’s champions Scorpions and runners-up Snipers are still in the campaign.
The top four teams in the men’s and women’s division were decided on Sunday.
In the men’s Pool A, Scorpions were unbeaten with four wins on 12 points, followed by Ela Motors on 10.
In Pool B, unbeaten Juma Thunders are on 15 points and Snipers on 13 to secure the top two spots.
Thunders comprising off springs from Snipers will meet Ela Motors and Scorpions plays Snipers.
While in the women’s pool A Scorpions and Hoppers on 13 points each but separated by percentage in that order. In pool B U Mi Yet are unbeaten on 15 points and Snipers on 13.
In the semi finals Scorpions are up against Snipers and U Mi Yet face Hoppers.
The winners meet in the grand final while losers play for the third and fourth placing.
