Curriculums are same, Tapo says
The National, Tuesday July 22nd, 2014
THE Outcomes-Based Curriculum (OBC) and Standard-Based Curriculum (SBC) involve knowledge, skills and attitude, Education Department Secretary Dr Michael Tapo says.
He said that during the launch of the commodity component of the tuition fee free education (TFFE) in Abau district, Central, last week.
“Some people think that OBC and SBC are two different things, which is not.”
Tapo said OBC was system-based except the approach in teaching it and resources were different.
“When a teacher teaches OBC mathematics, it is the same except that the approach of teaching and resourcing it will be different,” he said.
He said the main impediment for OBC was resources and innovative teaching approaches which would be looked at when SBC was introduced next year.
Tapo stressed that teacher training was important for the implementation of the curriculum, adding that a school-based in-service programme would be looked at to inform teachers about SBC.
Between now and September, teachers will be told on how to implement the SBC.
