THE Kimbe Cutters have been given a boost for the upcoming Digicel Cup season with the West New Britain (WNB) government continuing its major sponsorship of K200,000.
Franchise manager Freddie Kumai told The National yesterday that the sponsorship had given confidence to the side as they look to improve in their third season in the country’s premier rugby league competition.
“We’re fortunate enough to be given a sponsorship of K200,000 and we thank the West New Britain government,” he said.
“The Cutters acknowledge WNB Governor and club patron Sasindran Muthuvel for his continued support.
“We didn’t play well over the last two season.
“Despite that, we look to finish well this season and possibly make the finals.
“With our sponsors continuing their support, I am sure it’ll give us confidence to deliver a stronger campaign.”
Kumai said their existing sponsors had assured them of their support this season.
He said Bank South Pacific, Rabaul Metal Industry, Kimbe Rental Services, New Britain Palm Oil Ltd and Dataco were among other minor sponsors that had pledged their support.
Meanwhile, the Cutters have assembled a 32-man train-on squad for the pre-season.
Kumai said they would import eight more players for the pre-season.
“The 32 players named in January are from within the province,” he said.
“Our final 25-man squad will named at the end of the month.”
