Cybercrime unit set up at Airport Police Station

PORT Moresby residents can now report cybercrime offenders at the Airport Police Station, 7-Mile, with a new special unit stationed there.
Criminal Investigation Division director Mark Yangen told The National the new investigation team had an office space there which would deal with the public to investigate reports that they received.
Yangen said previously, two to three complaints were received daily but that had increased to more than 50.
“Other police stations will receive your report but will not fast track and investigate it,” he said.
“The right place is at Airport Police Station.”
Yangen said if the complaint was against something posted on face book, officers will get a search warrant and go to the mobile companies to retrieve details as evidence and then make the arrest.
Two cases had been investigated and were before the court at the moment, he said.
Four police officers and a legal officer are in the unit.
