Central Dabaris beat the Port Moresby Vipers 32-14 in the opening game of Sunday’s triple-header at the Oil Search National Football Stadium.
The round 10 local derby of the Digicel Cup saw a much improved Dabaris side led by former Hunter and captain Adam Korave dominate the Vipers for a well-earned win after a tumultuous last four weeks.
The match got off to a slow start saw some hard running and hits from both sides in the opening half that ended with a 10-6 score line in favour of the Dabaris.
The second 40 minutes provided more flare as the Dabaris showed their repertoire of attacking moves with impressive back-rower Buli Henao barging over after beating four defenders. Henao’s try was followed by a try to Allan Simbiri, who chased a grubber by five-eighth Junior Belo that saw the Central men shoot out to a 22-6 lead.
The Vipers responded with a try from Hunter’s export Shane Haro to cut the deficit down to 12 with the Dabaris 22-10 leaders.
But try as the Vipers did they could not match the Dabaris attacking flair as coach Chris Enara’s men posted a try to second-rower Ravu Otto before Vipers’ Mathew Girimai found winger Rex Tandoa with a long ball in 73rd minute.
But the Dabaris hand the final say with hooker scoring a dubious try three minutes from full time.
Boge worked a wrap around with Garry Ware and beat the cover to ground the ball. Video replays suggested Boge had lost control before grounding it.
