Dabaris uses villages to train as venues still closed

THE continued closure of sporting facilities in Port Moresby has forced the Central Dabaris to train in nearby villages as they prepare for next month’s Digicel Cup kick-off.
Dabaris head coach Bagelo Solien said they were following the Covid-19 state of emergency orders on basic hygiene and social distancing during training, however, lack of proper training venues had become an issue.
“We’re doing our field sessions but it’s not exactly the way we want to have them,” he said.
“The Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation has not opened the facilities yet so we had a field session at Baruni last Tuesday.
“The season has been confirmed for July 5 and whether the facilities are open or not, we need to train.
“We’ve been training within the rules and regulations of the SOE.
“We have only 10 people who are allowed to train at one time.
“We’ve made sure our players undergo checks like getting their temperatures and washing their hands regularly.”
Solien said players were using private gyms to avoid overcrowding.
This will be the Dabaris’ second campaign in the Digicel Cup with season organisers declaring an 11-round season prior to the playoffs.
