Dadae sees violence as threat to investor confidence

GOVERNOR-General Sir Bob Dadae warns that sorcery-related killings and violence against women and girls can scare away potential overseas investors.
He told the synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of PNG at Mogl village in the Sinesine-Yongomugl district of Chimbu that the issues were for the church to address.
“They are a threat to the progress of our nation,” he said.
“There is no respect for fellow human beings. Mutual respect was vibrant during the days of our forefathers. It has been eroded. It is no longer there.
“For economic development, we need foreign investors. Negative news about violence and sorcery here scare them away.”
He said sorcery would disappear when people believed in God.
“I am not afraid of sanguma. We can address it through God,” he said.
Sir Bob wanted to see a reformation taking place to phase out traditional ways of worship so that people can move with the advancement in technology.
“Styles of worship in the church have been faced with many challenges. The expectations are different,” he said.
Sir Bob called on the church to partner the government in the delivery of goods and services to the people.
He suggested that the church engage in more investments as it has assets.
