FOR the first time, Oil Search Ltd will be hosting the Daffodil Corporate golf challenge in Lae, Morobe, to raise funds for the PNG Cancer Society, especially for the operations of the cancer unit at the Angau Memorial Hospital.
The oil exploration company will also be holding the annual golf Challenge in Port Moresby, hosted to support the Port Moresby Cancer Relief Society and the cancer ward at the Port Moresby General Hospital.
The event will be held in Port Moresby on Aug 12 and in Lae on Aug 26.
Speaking during the launch in Port Moresby yesterday, Oil Search Ltd external affairs manager Willie Kupo, who is also a keen player, said the company had recognised that cancer was a disease that was steadily on the rise in PNG.
Kupo said treatment for the disease was expensive, and unless people could afford to travel overseas, most were left to die in their villages.
“Strengthening and building up the local institutions will go a long way in helping the fight against this disease,” Kupo said.
“So I extend an invitation on behalf of Oil Search Ltd to the general public and the business community to help support this very worthy cause.”
