Dangerous escapees recaptured

THE Lae-based mobile squad on operation in Yangoru-Saussia, East Sepik, has recaptured three dangerous prison escapees from Boram Jail in Wewak, provincial police commander Robert Gesa says.
“They have recaptured these escapees from East Sepik during a dawn raid at Tuonumbu, Hagama and Marenge villages in the electorate, based on good information from the public,” he said yesterday.
Gesa said escapee Adolf Hehuale from Handraduohun village, Kubalia, was recaptured at Tuonumbu village last Saturday.
“He was serving a life sentence for rape and double murder when he escaped from Boram,” he said.
“The mobile squad then went to Hagama village and recaptured Deali Walihik, from Yangoru, who also escaped from Boram while serving 16 years for murder.
“They then went on to recapture Rudolf Walu, from Yangoru, at Marenge village, who was on the run for a string of armed robberies, murder and rape.
“Walu was also armed with a homemade gun when he was recaptured.”
Gesa said he was happy with the mobile squad for recapturing these escapees.
“I also want to clarify reports that I have been replaced by Police Commissioner Gari Baki on retrenchment grounds,” he said.
“I have not received any notice yet from the commissioner’s office.
“All I know is that I had signed my renewed three-year performance-based contract to be the East Sepik PPC on Dec 18, 2018, at the Dixie Bungalow at 17-Mile in Central.
“I signed my contract during the PPC’s conference in front of Baki, deputy commissioner for operations Jim Andrews, deputy commissioner for administration Raphael Huafolo, and human resource assistant commissioner Sylvester Kalaut.
“In fact, all the PPCs signed their three-year contracts there.”
Gesa said for him to be replaced was in breach of his contract and would result in legal action.
“I’m 61 and still active and the retirement age is 65,” he said.
Baki had told The National on Wednesday that Gesa had been retrenched for reaching the retirement age and had been replaced by Albert Beli.
