Sports and Pacific Games Minister Justin Tkatchenko last Friday officially received the Autonomous Region of Bougainville’s submission on its five-year sports plan.

Tkatchenko received the document from Autonomous Bougainville Government sports and community development minister Melchior Dare and AB Sports Foundation secretary general Robert Semoso at a corporate dinner hosted by the Buka Rugby League at the Kuri Village Resort last Friday night.

The document consists of the region’s sports capacity-building project over the next five years.

“Sports has been used as a catalyst for peace and reconciliation, unification and a dynamic medium or tool in promoting other programmes in the province,” Dare quoted the submission.

The aim of the project is to improve the standard and quality of sports towards its substantiality and development within the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.

The submission hopes to create and provide an open sports environment through the establishment of standardised sports infrastructure that the community could use and to undertake the Bougainville Sports for Development Programmes.
