PNG Dart Federation has clarified a media report that the Madang Dart Association is not an affiliated member of the federation.

President of PNG Dart Federation Ronnie Chow in a letter dated June 20 in response to an article by this paper on June 12, said that at no time has Madang Dart Association expressed interest in hosting the 2013 national championships nor are they even an affiliate of the darts federation.

Chow suggested that Madang Dart Association work with Madang Urban Dart Association, which is the recognised association, to ensure a successful dart tournament in Madang from Sept 7-19.

He said there was clearly some confusion is who was to host the national titles but the Madang Urban Dart Association was the association which had been given the responsibility to host the titles.

According to Chow the Madang Dart Association has not been an affiliate for the past 11 years.

“Madang Urban Dart Association is an affiliated member of our national federation, and was duly recognised by the national darts federation to revive darts after those years,” Chow said.

“This will also provide an opportunity as the interest by the youths, which is paramount.”

Niugini Klab, a bar and club house in Madang, had sent the letter of interest to the PNG Dart Federation during PNG Games in Kokopo, Rabaul in 2012.

“The decision to endorse Niugini Klab and Madang Urban Dart Association is a collective decision by the PNG Dart Federation executives, and it is not president’s decision,” Chow clarified.

The announcement was done at the closing speech of the dart competition in front of representatives from all dart playing centres who attended the 2012 PNG Games in East New Britain.

Chow said the PNG Dart Federation stands by its decision that Madang Urban Dart Association will host the championships at Niugini Klab.

The deadline for all affiliation fee or necessary affiliation requirements is July 31.
