AFTER a successful visit to Daru last week Thursday, the PNG Rugby Football Union will continue rolling out the “Get Into Rugby” programme on the Aroma Coast this weekend.

As part of PNGRFU’s Monier Development programme, last week Thursday, PNGRFU rolled out various schemes and clinics including the new “Get Into Rugby” programme which was facilitated by Pacific in Union In-Country manager Frank Genia.

The five villages in the Aroma Coast targeted are Lalaura village, Kupiano Station, Wairavanua, Maopa, Gavuone and Paramana.

PNGRFU’s recent visit to Daru, Western province turned out a success and has resulted in the growing interest by the female participants.

Genia said that the rolling out of the program was the first of its kind in Daru and that the interest displayed by the participants was encouraging.

The Get Into Rugby programme was rolled out in five different pilot schools in Daru with participants including teachers of both genders.

PNGRFU development manager Sailosi Druma was also part of the team which travelled to Daru.

Druma, being involved with PNGRFU’s training and education programme, ran level two coaching clinics and refereeing courses.

Two females participated in the clinics.

“PNGRFU will be going back in eight weeks to stage its first ever rugby festival with the five pilot schools,” Genia added.

Genia expressed his thanks to Daru RFU for inviting the union to roll out its programmes to help develop rugby in the province.

“We are looking forward to seeing Daru RFU starting their school rugby and women’s competitions in the near future,” Genia said.

One of the other courses conducted was the medical educator course which was facilitated by PNGRFU.
