DataCo helps hospital with high-speed network

THE Kundiawa General Hospital is using PNG DataCo’s highlands fibre network to transmit 3D high definition tele-radiology imaging, according to the company.
The partnership with the PNG DataCo is enable the hospital to use the high-speed network to connect to overseas medical consultants for patient diagnosis.
The company said doctors at the hospital would have unlimited access to medical journals and research materials online to update skills and improve the management and treatment of patients.
As part of the National Transmission Network, PNG DataCo built the Highlands Fibre Network connecting Lae and Madang to Wabag and Mendi through Goroka, Kundiawa, Kudjip and Mt. Hagen.
The Level-Six hospital provides health services to Chimbu and highlands provinces.
PNG DataCo general manager commercial Une O’Ome congratulated KGH for becoming the first hospital to use the DataCo’s health initiative package.
O’Ome said the country would benefit from the Government investment in the programme.
Kundiawa General Hospital chief executive officer Dr Harry Poka thanked DataCo for assisting the hospital. “With this reliable internet link, telemedicine is possible.
